What should be the start of your exploration and mastery of the world of energy and consciousness? This is a mixed issue, but from many points of view and for many practitioners it is sensing, practicing and increasing the Chi energy.
Some schools, particularly in Yoga, say one should start with the purifying techniques (Sharkarmas), which, again, has a lot of sense, especially if impurity of the body and mind is an issue blocking the progress… And of course, if this is a case for you, then feel free to start with the purifying techniques.
But let’s deal with a case which is closer to someone who arrived to energy practices, chi-gong, magick etc., by way of natural progress of self-development, who had been somewhat caring about body and mind, and they are not a significant impediment to start the practices.
Developing the energy feeling and practice for a start has several benefits, notably:
- Sensing the energy flows in the body and around it lets you feel anything going wrong long before it goes into a phase of physical disease, and you can take action.
- Cleansing. If there's stagnant formation of energy in the body, some blockage, alien piece of energy from another person or something of that kind- you can, by using the downward Cosmic energy flow and the upward, Telluric energy flow, dissipate, fission and dispose that piece of energy.
- Energizing: you can, as well, energize yourself, both regarding the vital energy of the body and the more subtle energy more supports presence.
- Feeling the places and people. What is right for you, where you better sit, whom you better not touch, etc. The importance of this for daily life cannot be underestimated.
-Concentration object for meditation. Apart from such objects as a visual object for concentration, etc.. concentrating on the energy flows, as well as on chakras, or, in the Chi-gong tradition, the 3 energy centers, Dan-Tiens, is special in regard that concentration on it makes it increase, which is also supports concentration, so there’s ongoing positive feedback in this process, there is a play which is more immediately interactive. And, of course the health benefits of meditation on one’s energy centers and channels cannot be underestimated. An outstanding practitioner of this kind of things is Dr. Sui Min Tan, with his practice of Image Healing.
To sum it up, feeling and working with energies opens many doors into another realm, the realm of energy, which has always existed in this world, just many of us were not perceiving it, were not conscious of it, although at times felt there is something.
And so, “where do I start”- someone may say; a normal person hardly feels the energies, maybe at times and at a limited scale, but he or she is not accustomed to these things, and the rare occasions most probably are denied by the conscious mind and are pushed away into the unconscious.
I would suggest that there are several ‘pillars’ or, maybe gates, or ingredients to start feeling the energy.
- Anahata Chakra: true, selfless love, compassion. Just words for the ones who don't Do these things, but they mean a lot once you Do. There are, in fact, means, like mental exercises, tasks to remember certain times in your life, when you were really touched and to extrapolate this experience to a vaster understanding of the reality that might help to open your anahata Chakra, also with the help of Yoga Asanas and certain Chigong practices.
- Purity of the body and purity and size of the energy channels. Regarding purity of the body- it’s the diet that helps. Abstain from meat; it tends to lower your vibrations, your awareness, keeping it, or better say, some practical aspect of it, somewhat even below Manupira chakra. Fish- corresponds in this regard to Anahata chakra . So, if you are not yet a vegetarian, switching from meat and chicken to fish unlocks the potential to feel the energies, this is the door to go. That is not all what’s required, it’s a potential, as said here, the energies seem to be perceived with the body of Anahata, so development, opening of Anahata Chakra is paramount.
-Practice the activities that develop the energy flow, and, at the same time, practice feeling them, attuning to these currents. These double fold exercises shall pave your way to the world of feeling and controlling the energies. Examples are many, in Yoga and Chi-gong. In fact, in proper Yoga, not gymnastics, all asanas and also such actions as mudras are aimed at practicing particular energy flows and feeling the same, and in Chi-gong it is the same. It's just at the initial stages of practice that a student doesn't yet feel it, but with practice, with some exercise after another, and with proper visualisation, because the astral body, in fact, works as guides for the energy flows, one starts to feel and control it.
